Crossing

In 'Crossing,' I was inspired by the Subtle Knife, an object from author Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy that can be used to open portals to other worlds. My goal was to create a narrative in which the audio clips sourced from my home were used to construct the story of a portal being opened from a mirroring universe. I used and manipulated audio recordings of myself chopping sweet potatoes and throwing them into a metal bowl, my bedroom fan, the hum of my refrigerator, my joints cracking, washing my hands, and scratching at my carpet.
