Girl Talk: Beauty Standards

Girl Talk: Beauty Standards is the first video of the Girl Talk Series. In this video, women of different backgrounds, racial identities and sexualities decolonize the Spicy-Latina troupe. The troupe has stereotyped Latinas as a sexual temptress, whose main characteristics are their provocative body and ability to seduce men. In the safe space of a closed call, women challenge the reductiveness of the stereotype and reveal how they are personally affected by it. Beauty Standards reclaims the Latin-American identity by presenting unapologetic and complex narratives that are usually ignored in mainstream media. Recorded during lockdown, the conversation emphasizes that advocacy is atemporal and adaptable. All individual videos invite the audience to evaluate their own biases and prejudices about Latin-American women.
